Homeflex Renovations for Seniors

HEALTHY HOME TAX CREDIT

Helping Seniors Live At Home Longer

As of October 2012 The Ontario Ministry of Health & Long Term Care offers a tax credit for senior to age at home by renovating for accessibility.

The Healthy Homes Renovation Tax Credit Act will allow Ontario’s seniors to renovate their homes so they can live in them safely and independently longer.

Seniors who own or rent homes, and people who share a home with a senior relative will be able to receive the new tax credit worth up to $1,500 each year. The credit will make it more affordable to complete home renovations and installations to help seniors stay in their homes more safely and comfortably, and prevent falls and injuries.

Ontario Renovates

The Ontario Renovates Program administered by the City’s Housing Services Branch, provides limited funding to low income seniors who own their home and to persons with disabilities for necessary home repairs and accessibility modifications to support independent living. The program is also available to qualifying landlords to modify their existing units or buildings to make them more accessible to eligible seniors and persons with disabilities.

Homeowners who are 65 years of age or older, persons with disabilities and/or families with a household member(s) that have a disability, may qualify for assistance, if the property is eligible and if the total gross annual income of the household meets the income requirements. For example, one (1) person household annual gross income cannot exceed $31,500. If you meet this critera you may be elegible for a grant of up to $3500 or a forgivable interest free loan of up to $15000.
