STAIR LIFTS

A stairlift is a mechanical device for lifting people up and down stairs.  A rail is mounted to the treads of the stairs. A chair or lifting platform is attached to the rail. StairliftA person on the chair or platform is lifted as the chair moves along the rail. A stairlift is a device that helps people having challenges safely using stairs. Ultimately allowing the individual to have confidence and independence at home.

Depending on your staircase will determine the type of stairlift you will require. Either a straight rail or a custom curved rail. Most stairlifts are battery operated and do not require a dedicated circuit because only a small amount of electricity is needed to keep the batteries operated.

Stairlifts are best for individuals who able to walk. Someone with a cane, can use a stairlift cane holder but those with a walker may require a walker at both the bottom and top of the staircase for mobility use.Wheelchair users are not normally a good candidate for a stairlift because of the seat transfer. However, if they are able to do the transfer safely they will require an additional wheelchair at the top of the staircase. Wheelchair users often look at a residential elevator as an option.
